Description
The specimen is a whole brain. The cerebellum and occipital lobes appear unremarkable. There
is hypoplasia of the temporal lobes and the inferior portions of the frontal lobes. There is aplasia
of the parietal lobes and the superior part of the frontal lobes. The ventricular system is dilated
and there is direct communication between the lateral ventricles and the subarachnoid space.
History
The patient was a 7 year old female who was delivered following a normal pregnancy.
There was no chromosomal abnormality. The patient had a spastic quadraplegia, with severe
mental retardation and grand mal epilepsy
